A legal battle has emerged between the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party Adolphus Wabara. The Abia State High Court, sitting at Obehie in Ukwa West Local Government Area, has intervened by halting the enforcement of Wabara’s suspension as BoT Chairman.
Justice L.T.C. Eruba, who presided over the case, issued an injunction restraining Abraham Amah, a member of the PDP in Abia State, from enforcing Wabara’s suspension. The court also stopped Amah from claiming the chairmanship of the Abia State PDP. In the suit, marked HUK/8/2025, Wabara is seeking a judicial order to prevent the defendant from acting on the purported suspension.
In granting Wabara’s request, the court stated: “The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party, or in any way affecting his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, till the motion on notice is determined.”
The conflict escalated after Amah announced Wabara’s suspension, accusing him of anti-party activities, including allegedly praising Governor Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a move seen as a betrayal to the PDP.
Additionally, a faction within the PDP, known as the PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, has refuted claims made by former Commissioner for Information, Abia State, John Okiyi Kalu. Kalu had alleged that Wabara held a secret meeting with Governor Otti in London to discuss Otti’s potential defection to the PDP. In response, the National Coordinator of the PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, challenged Kalu to present evidence of the alleged meeting, asserting that the claims were unfounded.
