Abia State Governor Orders Expansion of Roads Around Umuahia Mega Bus Terminal

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has directed the contractor handling the Umuahia mega bus terminal project to expand the roads surrounding the terminal to improve vehicular movement.

The governor issued this order during an inspection visit to the project site on Sunday.

Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction but noted the need for some adjustments. He remarked, “The contractors are performing well and are adhering to the schedule. However, I have observed a few areas requiring changes. The roads need to be wider, and we need improvements at the junctions and traffic lights. Therefore, I’ve instructed them to halt work around the Cooperative roundabout for further review.”

Despite these adjustments, Otti praised the quality of work completed thus far, saying, “So far, so good. I am impressed with the quality of work.”

The governor elaborated on the project’s features and objectives, drawing a comparison to a similar development in Oshodi, Lagos State. He stated, “We aim to replicate what was achieved in Oshodi here in Umuahia. The terminal will integrate railway and bus services, with facilities including shopping centers, hotels, and recreational areas like children’s playgrounds.”

Otti explained that the terminal would help organize the city, reducing the number of scattered parks and encouraging business investments due to its comprehensive amenities. He acknowledged that while the project might not generate immediate revenue, it is expected to yield significant long-term benefits and enhance the city’s status as a capital.

During a Sunday worship service at Dunamis Church, Umuahia, Governor Otti also expressed gratitude to church members for their support during and after the election. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people. “Our administration is dedicated to putting people first, which is our guiding principle. We believe a government should focus on the welfare of its citizens. Hence, we are addressing arrears of salaries owed by previous administrations, not because of excess funds, but because we value fair compensation for workers,” he said.

Otti emphasized the administration’s commitment to transparency and proper management of state resources, assuring, “Money in Abia will not be misused. It will be used to benefit the people.”
