Abia to train 2,000 teachers, beef up security in schools

The Abia State Government has announced plans to train 2,000 master trainers for teachers across the state. This initiative, revealed by Commissioner for Information Okey Kanu following a recent executive council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, aims to enhance the quality of education in Abia.

So far, 200 teachers have completed the training, with the remaining 1,800 scheduled to follow soon. The Abia State Basic Education Board has already screened and shortlisted 40 teachers for the Abia State School Enhancement Team Program, which is part of a broader effort to improve educational standards.

In addition to teacher training, the state government has begun deploying security personnel to public schools to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school property. This measure is part of a comprehensive reform agenda to overhaul the state’s education system.

The government has also planned promotions for 5,746 staff members of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) as part of its strategy to boost staff motivation and productivity.

The state government will also commission the newly upgraded eye center at the Abia Specialist Hospital in Amachara on September 3, 2024, marking another step in its commitment to improving public services.
