Abuja to Experience Power Outages from January 6-21 Due to Relocation of Transmission Towers

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced that power supply in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be disrupted from January 6 to 21, 2025.

The disruption is a result of ongoing relocation work on the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

In a statement issued on Friday, AEDC informed residents that the relocation exercise would lead to temporary power outages across several areas within Abuja. The affected areas include, but are not limited to, Lugbe and surrounding communities, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Christ Embassy Church, and parts of Karu, Nyanya, and Mararaba. Other impacted areas include Jahi, Jabi, Bwari, Gudu, Kubwa, as well as parts of Gbazango, Apo, and the American Embassy Quarters.

AEDC has apologized for any inconvenience the outages may cause and expressed appreciation for the understanding of the affected residents. The company assured the public that the work is necessary for upgrading and maintaining the city’s power infrastructure.

This announcement follows a similar disruption in December 2024 when maintenance exercises by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) led to power outages in parts of the FCT. The maintenance was carried out at two transmission substations on December 28 and 29.

The AEDC has encouraged residents to plan accordingly during the blackout period and stay updated on any further developments.
