AFCON 2025Q: Rohr Defends Invitation Of Remo Stars Goalie Obassa For Super Eagles Clash

The decision to invite Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa to the team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Nigeria and Libya has been backed by Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr.

Rohr has invited 25 players for the two games, including Obassa.

Obassa’s extensive knowledge of Nigerian football, according to the German, will be crucial for his team.

“Obassa knows Nigerian football very well since he plays for Remo Stars, which is one of the best clubs in Nigeria at the moment,” he told Mega Sports.

“So his experience and know-how can also be useful to us, whether in training or possibly in matches.

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic will host the Super Eagles at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Thursday.

They need a win from the game to boost their chances of qualifying for Morocco 2025.
