The National Caucus of Afenifere has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Dele Farotimi, condemning the circumstances surrounding his recent abduction, detention, and incarceration.
Speaking at a media briefing, Deputy Leader of the caucus, Oladipo Olaitan, strongly criticized the actions of the police, emphasizing the growing trend of arrests being made without the knowledge of the arrested person’s relatives, and the transport of detainees outside the state without proper procedures.
Olaitan particularly condemned the police for bypassing established protocols, failing to log Farotimi’s arrest, and denying him the right to contact his family or legal counsel. He described the delay in granting bail to Farotimi as an attempt to humiliate and unjustly imprison an innocent person. According to Olaitan, the charges against Farotimi are non-existent in the laws of Ekiti State, and he called on the police to act swiftly to restore their credibility by terminating the prosecution.
The Afenifere caucus called for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding Farotimi’s abduction and subsequent treatment. Olaitan emphasized that this issue is not about ethnicity but about justice, asserting that such actions should not be tolerated in the country. He reiterated Afenifere’s commitment to the rule of law and vowed to take legal action if necessary to protect Farotimi’s rights, urging the authorities to address the situation without delay.
