The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has launched the fourth cohort of the AIG Public Leaders Programme (AIG PLP) in collaboration with the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. Since its inception in 2021, the programme has empowered 169 public sector leaders and remains a key part of the Foundation’s mission to train 3,000 public sector leaders by 2030.
The goal is to equip these leaders with the skills necessary to drive impactful reforms and improve service delivery within their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The AIG PLP is an executive training initiative designed to strengthen the capabilities of African public sector leaders, enabling them to deliver measurable results and promote cultures of integrity, excellence, and innovation. The Foundation aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders capable of addressing complex challenges and implementing sustainable reforms that have a lasting impact on communities.
The current cohort, which includes participants from Ghana and Kenya, has begun with virtual classes followed by an intensive one-week residential programme in Abuja. During this time, participants will work with faculty members from the Blavatnik School of Government, gaining strategic insights and practical tools to excel in their roles and drive change within their respective MDAs.
Notable alumni from the programme include Dr. Ibiwunmi Olokun, a Medical Officer of Health and Primary Health Care Coordinator at the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board. As a member of Cohort 3, she led a project at her healthcare centre that reduced patient waiting times from 70 to 30 minutes. This successful model is now being adopted across other facilities in her health district in Lagos State.
Another alumnus, Mohammed Ahmed, Director and Chief of Staff to the CEO of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, a Cohort 1 graduate, initiated a reform project aimed at fostering partnerships between the government and the private sector to enhance financial intelligence and tackle financial crimes.
Through these impactful projects, the AIG PLP continues to shape the future of public leadership in Africa.
