Air Marshal Abubakar Orders Intensified Air Strikes Against Bandits While Prioritizing Civilian Safety

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has directed personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to ramp up air offensives against bandits while ensuring maximum protection for civilians. This directive underscores the NAF’s commitment to precise and responsible air operations, aligning with the Civilian Harm Mitigation Action Plan aimed at safeguarding non-combatants during military operations.

The call for intensified operations came as Air Marshal Abubakar visited the Air Component Headquarters of Operation Fansam Yamma in Katsina and Sokoto States. During his visit, he commended the troops for their relentless dedication in combating banditry and stressed that air power remains a critical tool in dismantling the criminal networks and supporting ground forces in the ongoing counter-banditry efforts.

Recognizing the vital role of intelligence, logistics, and troop welfare, Air Marshal Abubakar assured personnel of continuous support in these areas. He highlighted that efficient intelligence, well-maintained equipment, and high troop morale are essential to achieving sustainable security in the region.

In addition to his operational review, the CAS conducted a hands-on assessment of aircraft and ongoing infrastructure projects. In Sokoto, he inspected newly constructed accommodation and operational facilities designed to support personnel in the field. Similarly, in Katsina, he evaluated key infrastructure initiatives, including a new hangar facility, accommodations, and a Base church, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the well-being and operational efficiency of NAF personnel.

The CAS’s visit comes at a critical time, as the NAF, alongside other security agencies, is intensifying efforts to dismantle bandit networks and restore security in Nigeria’s North-West region. The presence of Air Marshal Abubakar has been described as a significant morale booster for the troops, reinforcing the strategic importance of air operations in the fight against insurgency.

The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in its mission to protect the nation’s citizens, leveraging its air superiority and strategic coordination to address national security threats.
