The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that it will provide free tickets for the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
In a statement on Monday, Paul Bassey, the state’s Commissioner for Sports, revealed that Governor Umo Eno had purchased all 30,000 tickets to encourage widespread support for the national team. “In line with his commitment to rally support for the Super Eagles against the Warriors of Zimbabwe, Governor Umo Eno has bought 30,000 tickets for football fans ahead of the crucial match,” Bassey said.
The tickets will be distributed at various locations, including all radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant on Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Ibom Plaza, and other previous ticket sales outlets. Bassey stressed that no tickets would be sold or distributed at the stadium itself and urged fans to collect theirs in advance.
He also emphasized that only ticket holders would be allowed entry and urged fans to follow seating and security protocols.
In addition, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the first 500 fans to collect tickets will receive Super Eagles jerseys. NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi called on supporters to turn out in large numbers, wearing Nigeria’s national colors to create an electric atmosphere. “We urge Nigerians to show up in full force to support the Super Eagles on Tuesday. The Rwandans filled their stadium for their match with us—let’s do the same for our team,” Sanusi said.
The Super Eagles are currently in a challenging position in the qualifiers, sitting fourth in Group C with six points from five matches. They secured their only victory of the campaign against Rwanda on Friday and will be aiming for another win against Zimbabwe to boost their World Cup qualification hopes.
