Algiers-Abuja direct flights begin April 6

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the launch of Air Algérie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, scheduled to begin on April 6, 2025. This new route is expected to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Algeria.

In a statement signed by Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, it was revealed that the service will be operated by Air Algérie’s national carrier using a Boeing 737 aircraft. The flight is the result of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two countries and aims to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and foster trade and investment between Nigeria and Algeria.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is excited to announce the commencement of Air Algérie’s direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja on April 6, 2025. This marks a key milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic relationship between the two nations,” the statement reads.

The ministry also acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers for its significant role in making the flight a reality. The inaugural flight will carry the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, Nigerian community leaders, and representatives from the Algerian government.

The Federal Government congratulated Air Algérie and extended its full support to ensure the success of the new service. In addition to fostering closer ties between Nigeria and Algeria, the affordable fares and Algeria’s proximity to Europe make this flight a convenient gateway for Nigerians traveling to Europe, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a key regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

The Ministry encouraged Nigerian citizens and businesses to take advantage of this new service to explore greater opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two countries.
