Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi has made history by completing a remarkable journey that saw her carry the Nigerian flag across all seven continents in just 71 hours, 26 minutes, and 25 seconds. Asinobi’s adventure, which took her across Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, is being celebrated as a major milestone for both her and the Nigerian flag.
In a celebratory Instagram post on Tuesday, Asinobi proudly shared her achievement, stating, “Our Nigerian flag is officially the first and fastest flag to visit all 7 continents! I guess my work here is done. I cannot wait to be homeeeee.”
Her journey, however, wasn’t without its hurdles. Asinobi faced significant challenges, including visa issues, flight delays, and travel restrictions tied to her Nigerian passport. One of the major obstacles occurred when she was denied boarding on a flight to Perth, Australia, forcing her to rebook a later flight to Sydney. This delay contributed to her slightly extended timeline.
Despite these difficulties, Asinobi’s determination remained unshaken, and she completed the feat within an impressive 71 hours. She also recounted the physical and emotional toll of her journey, sharing how she woke up in a panic after dreaming about a final boarding call despite being sound asleep. In her post, she humorously reflected on the much-needed rest: “Gosh… Continent 8 (Dreamland) was kind to me. No visas needed, no flight needed, just a bed.”
Although Asinobi’s accomplishment didn’t break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to visit all seven continents (held by American Johnny Cruz Buckingham at 64 hours), her journey remains historic, sparking important conversations about passport inequality and the challenges Nigerians face in global travel.
Looking ahead, Asinobi is preparing for her homecoming event on March 30, where she plans to gather Nigerians to sign the flag she carried throughout her travels. This event aims to celebrate her achievement and raise awareness about global mobility barriers, while also fostering national pride.
Asinobi’s journey has not only been a personal triumph but also a symbol of resilience and determination, and it continues to inspire others to push boundaries, break records, and challenge the status quo.
