Annabelle Fasuba, daughter of former Nigerian sprint legend Olusoji Fasuba, has made headlines in the UK after smashing a 48-year-old 100m record at the City of Plymouth’s Spring Warm-Up Meeting in Devonport on Sunday.

The 13-year-old sprint sensation clocked an impressive 11.91 seconds in her first outdoor race of the 2025 season, breaking a record that had stood unchallenged since 1976. The previous mark was held by Jill Davies.

With this performance, Annabelle not only set a new U-15 City of Plymouth record but also climbed into the UK’s top 10 fastest female sprinters in the early 2025 rankings. She now ranks 14th on the all-time U-15 girls’ list—placing ahead of British stars Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt at the same age.

According to Plymouth Sports Gazette, only 20 female athletes in British history have broken the 12-second barrier at the U-15 level.

Her impressive form didn’t stop there. Annabelle also competed in the 300m at the same event, clocking a solid 40.88 seconds—yet another record-breaking performance for the City of Plymouth.

Her father, a former African 100m champion and Olympic bronze medallist, was full of praise.

“What a day for 13-year-old Annabelle Fasuba,” Olusoji wrote in a Facebook post. “She stormed to a blistering 11.91s in the 100m, breaking not one but two records in one race… To top off a phenomenal day, she ran in the 4x300m relay, helping her team bring home a brand-new club record. What a talent. What a future.”

Annabelle had already begun making waves in 2024 after setting two UK records in the 100m and 200m U-15 categories within a single week last May.

With performances like this, the young Fasuba is proving that elite sprinting truly runs in the family.
