The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured party members and stakeholders that President Bola Tinubu will be present to chair today’s National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This was confirmed by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, who spoke exclusively with journalists on Monday. He emphasized that the President has already confirmed his attendance, reassuring party members that the meetings would go ahead as planned.
“There will be no changes,” Basiru stated. “The National Caucus and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday as scheduled.”
This announcement comes after previous concerns regarding the rescheduling of the two important meetings. Last year, both the National Caucus meeting, initially scheduled for September 11, and the NEC meeting planned for September 12 were called off indefinitely. Although the party did not provide a specific reason for the suspension, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, had assured that new dates would be announced in due course. However, five months later, there was still no update, leading to growing concerns about when the meetings would be rescheduled.
According to a leaked memo signed by Basiru, the meetings will proceed as follows: The National Caucus will take place today, Tuesday, February 25, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa at 6 p.m., while the NEC meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
These key meetings, which are critical for shaping the direction of the APC, are expected to be chaired by President Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and other senior party figures in attendance. The list of expected attendees includes National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Senate President Dr. Godswill Akpabio, past and present APC governors, former and current Speakers of the House of Representatives, state party chairmen, and other influential party members.
For Ganduje, the upcoming meetings will mark his first participation as the national chairman of the APC, having assumed the role recently. With such high-profile leadership in attendance, the meetings are anticipated to be pivotal in determining the future trajectory of the APC.
