APC Sweeps Kebbi LG Election

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victories in all 21 local government chairmanship positions and 225 councilorship roles in Kebbi State, according to results announced by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

Aliyu Mera, Chairman of the Commission, revealed the results at the commission’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi over the weekend. He noted that the election saw participation from 17 political parties, with the major opposition party, the PDP, opting out of the contest.

The State Independent Electoral Commission has formally issued certificates of return to all the elected officials. Kebbi, located in North-West Nigeria, is currently governed by the APC administration under Governor Nasir Idris.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s July decision granting financial autonomy to local governments, approximately 20 states have hurriedly conducted local government elections.
