At least 14 people have lost their lives in a devastating auto crash along Tage Bridge in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The accident occurred on Monday when a vehicle carrying passengers crashed, resulting in a gruesome scene with many bodies scattered at the site.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crash was horrific, with the vehicle, a Golf 3 wagon with the license plate GML 842 XA, somersaulting before plunging into the river. The vehicle was traveling from Hadejia town to Makera village when the tragedy unfolded.
The state police command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam. In an interview with journalists, Adam stated that the driver of the vehicle survived the crash and is currently cooperating with police to determine the cause of the accident. The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their families.
According to the police spokesperson, a distress call was made shortly after the crash, and emergency responders arrived at the scene. The victims were rushed to the nearest Hadejia General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed the deaths of eight women, two men, and four young men.
The investigation into the cause of the tragic accident is ongoing, with police urging the public to provide any relevant information to assist in the inquiry.
