At Least One Fatality, Four Injured After Jet Skids Off Runway in Arizona

At least one person was killed on Monday when a midsize business jet skidded off the runway while attempting to land at Scottsdale Municipal Airport, crashing into a parked jet, authorities have confirmed.

According to Dave Folio, a spokesperson for the Scottsdale Fire Department, four others were injured in the incident.

Three of the injured were transported to local hospitals, while one person remained trapped in the wreckage as first responders worked to free them. The cause of the jet veering off the runway has not yet been determined.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it was investigating the crash, which it said involved a Learjet 35A that skidded off the runway, which then collided with a Gulfstream 200 jet.

This incident occurs amid increased scrutiny over air safety in the United States. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating three other fatal accidents that have occurred recently.

These include a midair collision between a passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, DC, which killed 67 people, a medical jet crash in Philadelphia that claimed seven lives, and a plane crash in Alaska that resulted in 10 fatalities.

Authorities have not yet provided additional details on the Scottsdale crash as investigations continue.
