Italian Serie A club Atalanta have raised their asking price for Ademola Lookman to €60 million, up from the previously reported €50 million, following strong interest from top clubs like Juventus. The Super Eagles forward’s value has soared after a stellar performance in Atalanta’s recent 4-0 victory over Juventus, during which he marked his 50th Serie A goal.
Lookman’s contributions were vital in the historic win, as Atalanta handed Juventus their worst home defeat since 1967. The 27-year-old was a constant threat, hitting the post in the first half, forcing a save from Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, and playing a key role in Marten de Roon’s opening goal. He capped his performance by scoring Atalanta’s fourth after capitalizing on Dusan Vlahovic’s slip.
The forward has been in exceptional form this season, contributing 25 goals across all competitions, including 13 in Serie A and five in the Champions League, along with seven assists. His goal tally of 18 has already surpassed his total from the previous season, further solidifying his reputation as one of Serie A’s top performers.
Atalanta’s decision to increase Lookman’s asking price follows Juventus’ growing interest, with the Turin giants believed to be keen on securing his services after his dominant display against them. Despite Atalanta reportedly agreeing in principle to let Lookman leave in the summer with two years left on his contract, the club seems determined to extract a higher fee for their prized asset.
Lookman’s stock has risen significantly since joining Atalanta, where he delivered a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in last season’s Europa League final, securing the club’s first-ever European trophy and earning the CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
Though there was a public fallout with manager Gian Piero Gasperini over a penalty miss during their Champions League exit, the two have reconciled. Gasperini has even suggested that Lookman could be named team captain before the season’s end, recognizing the forward’s central role in the team.
“Lookman became a fantastic player when he improved his perception of the team,” Gasperini said after the Juve match. “He made Atalanta great, and Atalanta made him great.”
With Atalanta holding onto slim hopes of challenging for the Scudetto, the club is keen to maximize their financial return should they part ways with Lookman this summer.
