Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, led a high-profile delegation to the hilltop residence of his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The meeting, which also included former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, Senators Abdul Ningi and Aminu Tambuwal who is also a former Governor of Sokoto State has sparked considerable interest, though the agenda of the gathering remains undisclosed.
The timing of the meeting raises speculations about its relevance to the looming 2027 presidential race, with opposition figures like Atiku planning strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Atiku, who served as Obasanjo’s vice president from 1999 to 2007, has made multiple attempts to secure the presidency, most recently in the 2023 election, where he finished as the runner-up to President Bola Tinubu of the APC.
At 78, Atiku remains a major figure in Nigerian politics, and this meeting with Obasanjo could potentially mark a pivotal moment in the opposition’s efforts to unseat the APC in the upcoming elections.
