Aviation Workers Suspend Planned Protest Over 50% Deductions

Aviation workers in Nigeria have suspended their planned protest scheduled for September 18, 2024, regarding the 50% deductions from the revenues of aviation agencies.

Last week, aviation unions criticized the Federal Government for its refusal to reverse this deduction policy affecting agencies such as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

In a statement dated September 17, 2024, Olayinka Abioye, General Secretary of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), announced the suspension of the protest. He stated, “Due to information about ongoing discussions by higher authorities regarding the continued 50% deductions by the Federal Government, I inform our esteemed members that the planned protest for September 19, 2024, is hereby suspended pending the outcome of these discussions, which we will communicate to you all.”
