Bamako Attack: Nigeria Condemns Activities Of Violent Extremist Groups, Condoles With Malians

Nigeria government has described as a ‘heinous act’ the terrorist attack in Mali which left a death toll and wanton destruction in its wake.

On Tuesday, 17th September, 2024, a military airport, training Centre and other sensitive locations in Bamako, Mali came under heavy fire, a development which has drawn condolences from Nigeria.

In reaction to the ‘abominable’ act, the Spokesperson, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe in a Statement in Abuja said the latest attack speaks volume of the thriving activities of violent extremist groups in West Africa.

“This heinous act, which has claimed lives and caused destruction of several military aircraft, is yet another stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by extremist groups in the region.

“It must be emphasized that acts of terrorism, regardless of where they occur, represent a threat to peace and security for the entire region.

“Nigeria extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Mali, particularly to the families of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this tragic incident,” the Statement concluded.
