Bauchi Emirate Council Withdraws Title from Senator over Insulting Remarks

The Bauchi State Emirate Council has revoked the traditional title of “Mujaddadin Bauchi” from Senator Shehu Buba, who represents Bauchi South, following his criticism of Governor Bala Mohammed.

In a letter dated August 14, 2024, addressed to the Senator and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council Secretariat, the council, led by the Emir of Bauchi, stated that a recent meeting concluded that the Senator’s remarks about Governor Mohammed were insulting and disrespectful. The council determined that these comments violated the culture and traditions of the Emirate Council.

The senator’s criticism came during the kickoff of the APC local government elections campaign in Bauchi, where he responded to Governor Mohammed’s criticisms of President Bola Tinubu.

Senator Buba accused Governor Mohammed of enacting poor policies that have exacerbated poverty in the state and called for accountability regarding federal resources allocated to the state.

He listed several palliative items, such as rice and fertilisers, that Governor Mohammed allegedly failed to distribute to the people.

Buba also told Governor Mohammed that President Tinubu is not his peer in politics, asserting that it is he, Buba, who is the governor’s political peer.

He recalled how the Governor failed to secure the presidential ticket and accused him of building a magnificent private residence in Bauchi State.
