The Bauchi State Government has submitted a supplementary budget of N94.676 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval.
This request was presented during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Majority Leader, Babayo Akuyam, on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.
Akuyam explained that the governor is seeking approval in accordance with Section 122 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to expedite the execution of priority projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Bauchi residents. “The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructure development, fostering human capital growth, and improving the health and education sectors,” Akuyam stated, citing the governor’s letter.
Additionally, the House has moved to establish a Food Security and Nutrition Committee to address hunger and malnutrition in the state.
Presenting the motion, Majority Leader Akuyam emphasized that the committee will focus on improving the nutritional status of Bauchi citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as women, children, and internally displaced persons.
Akuyam added that “The committee’s responsibilities will include ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in alignment with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,”
