Bello Turji, the notorious terror kingpin, is reportedly on the run after his son was killed in a military raid conducted by the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma in Zamfara State. The raid, which took place on January 17, led to significant losses for the terrorist group, with scores of militants neutralized and key logistics hubs destroyed.

In a statement released by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, the Nigerian Armed Forces confirmed that the successful operation was a joint effort involving ground troops and the air component. The coordinated clearance operation targeted the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis, which are known strongholds for the terrorists.

The military’s heavy-handed approach resulted in high casualties among the militants, and several hostages, who had been kidnapped by Turji’s group, were rescued. Turji, who is believed to have orchestrated numerous violent attacks in the region, reportedly escaped the raid, abandoning his son and other loyal combatants.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama also confirmed the death of Turji’s son and several of his fighters, sharing the news on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account. The analysts noted that Turji, a wanted terrorist leader, has been on the run ever since the operation began.

In addition to the losses suffered by Turji’s group, the troops destroyed a camp belonging to another prominent terrorist leader, known as Idi Mallam, located in the Zango Kagara Forest. During the clash at this camp, three terrorists were neutralized, and three suspected collaborators were apprehended. The military also seized valuable weapons, including two machine guns, one AK-47 rifle, and several rounds of ammunition. Additionally, 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep were recovered, along with various other items.

The successful operations have been celebrated in the Arewa community, where news of Turji’s son’s death and the destruction of the terrorist camps circulated widely on social media, bringing a sense of relief to many. The military has vowed to continue its relentless pursuit of these terrorist groups and ensure the safety of all citizens in the country.

Troops involved in the operation have shown unwavering commitment to securing the nation’s borders and protecting its citizens from terror, with ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent further atrocities.
