Borno Governor’s Convoy Repels Boko Haram Attack, Rescues Seven Abducted Travelers

Troops attached to the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, successfully thwarted a Boko Haram terrorist attack along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

In a dramatic confrontation, an unconfirmed number of terrorists were killed during the exchange of gunfire between the insurgents and the troops. The attack, which targeted a Volkswagen vehicle with several travelers onboard, resulted in the rescue of seven kidnapped individuals.

The convoy, which included soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai, the Police Crack Team, and other top government officials, was returning from Biu Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State when the terrorists launched their attempt. Upon spotting the assailants, the troops acted swiftly, engaging them in a fierce gun battle that led to the insurgents abandoning their captives and fleeing the scene.

It’s important to note that Governor Zulum was not present in the convoy at the time of the attack. He had earlier traveled by helicopter. Despite the tension of the attack, all personnel in the convoy emerged unharmed, and the rescued travelers were reported to be safe.

Following the successful defense, the troops recovered several weapons and motorcycles left behind by the fleeing insurgents.
