Bureau Seeks States, Private Sector Collaboration in Anti-Corruption Reforms

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms has called on state governments and the private sector to play an active role in strengthening Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

This was highlighted at a validation workshop on the Implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, held on Monday, in Abuja.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General of the Bureau, Dasuki Arabi, emphasised the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in the successful implementation of the NACs.

Arabi acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders, including the Federal Government, Anti-Corruption Agencies, Civil Society Organisations, and international partners, in the ongoing fight against corruption.

According to a statement by the Head of Strategic Communications at BPSR, Aliyu Umar, the workshop focused on reviewing the progress made in implementing the anti-corruption strategy and identifying ways to enhance its impact on governance and service delivery.

“The success of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy relies on the collective effort of all sectors of society, including state governments and the private sector. We must collaborate to strengthen institutions, improve transparency, and promote accountability at all levels of governance”, Arabi said.

He noted that the BPSR, in collaboration with a private consultant, conducted a research survey to assess the strategy’s impact and recommend actionable strategies for further strengthening anti-corruption efforts across Nigeria.

Arabi reiterated the Bureau’s commitment to building capacity at both federal and state levels, saying, “Through our governance reforms initiatives, we are working closely with state governments to replicate successful reforms at the federal level, particularly in areas such as public financial management and the implementation of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy.”

The Director-General also stressed the role of the private sector in ensuring the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures, calling for greater collaboration with businesses to create a culture of integrity and transparency in both public and private institutions.

Arabi urged participants to actively contribute to the discussions, share their insights, and collaborate in achieving the overarching goal of strengthening the country’s anti-corruption framework.

He noted that the success of NACs would ultimately depend on the dedication of all stakeholders in tackling corruption, improving governance, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
