Burna Boy and Odumodublack Miss Out as Kendrick Lamar Dominates 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards

Nigerian music heavyweights, Burna Boy and rapper Odumodublack, missed out on their respective categories at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, which aired on Tuesday from Drai’s Beach Club Nightclub in Las Vegas.

Despite being nominated in September, Burna Boy lost the ‘Best Live Performer’ award to legendary US rapper Missy Elliott. Odumodublack, nominated in the same event, also fell short as British songwriter Ghetts took home the award in his category.

The night, however, belonged to US rapper Kendrick Lamar, who emerged as the biggest winner, securing a total of eight awards. Lamar clinched prestigious titles, including ‘Hip Hop Artist of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Lyricist of the Year’, and ‘Impact Track’.

Other notable winners include 50 Cent, who took home the ‘Hustler of the Year’ award, while The Alchemist won both ‘Producer of the Year’ and ‘DJ of the Year’.

Despite the missed victories for Burna Boy and Odumodublack, the event highlighted the global reach of hip-hop and the growing prominence of African artists on the world stage.
