The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has requested Egypt to step in as the host for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after Côte d’Ivoire withdrew from staging the biennial tournament.
Côte d’Ivoire had initially been selected to host the competition, but the West African nation announced its decision to pull out on Wednesday. In response, CAF has turned to Egypt, which hosted the 2023 edition of the U-20 AFCON, to take on the responsibility for the upcoming tournament.
The competition is currently scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 26. However, CAF may have to adjust the kick-off date to give Egypt adequate time to prepare for the event.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, are among the teams set to compete. They have been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa, promising an exciting group stage for the tournament.
