Captain America’s ‘Brave New World’ Earns Nearly N300 Million in Nigerian Theatres

Captain America: Brave New World has grossed nearly N300 million at Nigerian theatres within three weeks of its release. According to the Nigerian Box Office, the film added N43.9 million between February 28 and March 2, bringing its total earnings to N298 million.

Distributed locally by FilmOne Entertainment, the film had a stellar debut, earning N137.5 million during its opening weekend, making it the biggest premiere of 2025 in Nigeria. It also set the highest box office figures for the weekend of February 14–16, reflecting a growing demand for superhero blockbusters in the country.

By its second week, Brave New World had amassed N226 million, with an additional N57.2 million earned between February 21 and 23. The film continues to dominate the Nigerian box office, showing strong sustained interest from local audiences.

On the global stage, however, Brave New World has had a mixed reception. Despite topping the box office for three consecutive weekends, the film’s overall performance raises concerns for Marvel Studios. Directed by Julius Onah, the film marks Anthony Mackie’s first solo appearance as Captain America, following his transition into the role in Avengers: Endgame.

While the film earned an estimated $15 million domestically this past weekend, its performance has been overshadowed by the 2025 Academy Awards, with limited competition in theatres. With a global gross of $341.8 million, Brave New World has surpassed The Incredible Hulk ($265.5 million) and The Marvels ($199.7 million), Marvel’s lowest-grossing film. Projections suggest the film will finish its theatrical run around $400 million, placing it alongside Eternals ($401.7 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432.2 million).

While the film received a lukewarm critical reception, with a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audience response has been much more positive, with an 80% approval rating from general viewers. Despite the mixed reception, Brave New World remains a major draw in Nigerian theatres, demonstrating the global appeal of the superhero genre.
