China Announces New Tariffs on U.S. Agricultural Imports in Retaliation

In response to Washington’s decision to increase tariffs on Chinese goods, China announced on Tuesday that it would impose fresh tariffs on a range of U.S. agricultural imports starting next week.

Beijing’s finance ministry revealed that additional 15% tariffs will be levied on chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, while a 10% tariff will apply to sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.

This move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order on Monday to raise the previously imposed 10% tariff on Chinese goods to 20%, intensifying the ongoing trade war.

In response, China condemned the “unilateral imposition of tariffs by the U.S.,” asserting that the move would burden U.S. companies and consumers and undermine the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between the two nations.

Furthermore, China’s commerce ministry announced that it would file a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization over the additional U.S. tariffs.
