China to impose additional 34% tariffs on U.S. goods from April 10

The Chinese government announced that it will impose a 34% tariff on all U.S. imports starting April 10, following Washington’s decision to impose heavy new levies on Chinese goods.
Additionally, Beijing has implemented export controls on seven rare earth elements, including gadolinium, which is commonly used in MRIs, and yttrium, which is used in consumer electronics.
China’s finance ministry, as reported by Xinhua, urged the United States to immediately cancel its unilateral tariff measures and resolve trade disputes through consultation based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
The ministry criticized Washington’s decision to impose an additional 34% in reciprocal tariffs on China, which would bring the total U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods to 54%. It called these actions “inconsistent with international trade rules” and said they seriously harm Chinese interests, while also threatening global economic development and the stability of production and supply chains.
