The Nigerian Gas Association has called for the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas as an alternative to Premium Motor Spirit or petrol. It said it is 15 per cent cheaper.
The President of the association, Akachukwu Nwokedi, said this during a media briefing in Lagos.
According to Nwokedi, “The Federal Government has to continue to make gas affordable, and we as an association support CNG, Train 7 because Nigeria has enough gas resources to achieve economic growth. Besides, CNG is 15 per cent cheaper than petrol”, he said.
Prices of petrol had seen a rise from around N185 per litre to almost N600/litre in Lagos and its environs and above N700/litre up north.
Nwokedi added that reviewing the PIA will lead to addressing issues like multiple taxation, paying for gas and fees in dollars rather than naira, fiscal incentives, and other things.
