COAS Vows to Go after Wanted Bandit Leader Bello Turji

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has stated that the Nigerian military is determined to track down the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji.

Speaking to the press on Thursday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, the army chief emphasized that the military would relentlessly pursue Turji until he is neutralized.

He made these remarks at the Headquarters of Operation Fasan Yamma, reaffirming the troops’ commitment to securing the region.

Oluyede asserted that Turji, who has been evading capture, is being closely monitored: “Bello Turji is on the run as we speak, and wherever he goes, we will follow him. Let him keep running, it’s only a matter of time before he is removed from the space.”

The army chief highlighted the success of the military’s recent operations, noting that several high-profile bandit leaders, including Samaila, Boga, and Boderi, have been eliminated in recent months.

He assured the public that the military is determined to continue its efforts to improve security and protect the lives and property of citizens, with a special focus on making the entire North-West region safe.

While Oluyede acknowledged the challenges the troops face in the operational environment, he expressed confidence that these obstacles would be overcome.

He also called on Nigerians to support the army and other security agencies by providing timely information to assist in their operations.

In addition to the briefing, the army chief inspected the quarter guard under tight security. His visit, the first since his appointment on October 30, 2024, comes at a time when the military is intensifying efforts to combat banditry and other security threats in the North-West.

Operation Fasan Yamma remains a critical component in the ongoing mission to restore peace and stability to the region.
