Security agencies have implemented a large-scale blockade of routes leading to Eagles Square and the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, where protesters had planned to gather in opposition to the controversial cybercrime law and the emergency rule in Rivers State.
Riot police were observed positioning their vehicles to block access to the protest sites even before dawn. As a result, workers and civilians who usually use these routes to reach their offices on Monday morning found themselves stranded, as security personnel turned them away.
Those determined to reach their offices, which are located near Eagles Square, were forced to disembark from their buses and walk the rest of the way under police supervision.
The ensuing confusion and chaos led to a flood of commuters and vehicles around Eagles Square and surrounding areas, causing a significant traffic jam and making it difficult for passengers to navigate through the crowded spaces.
The police declined to comment on the reasons behind the roadblocks or why they were implemented on a working day, causing disruptions for the public.
