Constituents insist on Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall, cite ‘international embarrassment’

Ebira indigenes have strongly rejected claims that the recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, lacks the support of the majority of the electorate in the district.

The indigenes, representing all five local government areas of Kogi Central, reaffirmed their commitment to the recall, stating that the embarrassment caused by the senator had reached an “international dimension.”

This position was articulated in a statement released on Thursday, co-signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Ibrahim, President of the Kogi Central Elites Forum, and Prince Akerejola Johnson of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, who serves as the group’s Secretary.

The constituents urged Nigerians to disregard what they termed as “deliberate mischief” from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s camp, which suggested that the electorate was misled into supporting the recall effort. They also addressed concerns regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) involvement in the process, clarifying that the electoral body’s role had been misrepresented.

The group emphasized the need to ignore “mischievous interpretations” of the recall process, asserting that politicians often manipulate events to serve their own interests.

The National Assembly has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, coinciding with Akpoti-Uduaghan being penalized for violating Senate rules.
