Crisis Hits Zamfara NMA as Two Factional Chairmen Emerge

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara State has been enmeshed in crisis as two factional chairmen have emerged from its 2024 election of state officers.

The immediate past vice chairman of the association Ibrahim Jibril was announced by the returning officer Mannir Bature as the winner of the election for the chairmanship position having polled 183 votes to defeat his closest rival Usman Suleiman who scored twelve votes and he is claiming as the new chairman of the NMA Zamfara State

The Zamfara State Branch of the NMA started its annual general meeting peacefully with a scientific conference. But when the election of the new state officials commenced after the tenure of the outgoing officials led by Sanusi Bello elapsed, there was disagreement.

The returning officer for the election who is also the National Publicity Secretary of the NMA Mannir Bature adjourned the session to 5 pm where the delegates were to participate in the exercise virtually.

According to him, they reconvened at 5 pm where the election was conducted and other Candidates emerged unopposed but three candidates; Ibrahim Jibril, Mohammed Abubakar, and Usman Suleiman contested the chairmanship position and Ibrahim Jibril scored 183 votes to emerge as the NMA state.

The new chairman whom the national publicity secretary of the NMA described as legitimate Ibrahim Jibril promised an open-door policy, transparent, and accountable leadership, as well as to carry every member along as he has their mandate to lead the association in the State.

Usman Suleiman who is also claiming the chairmanship of the Zamfara NMA received the support of some elders from the association, calling members to support him and his team to succeed in taking the association to greater heights.
