Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) Ekong Boco, has confirmed that ten political parties will participate in the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.
This announcement was made during the distribution of sensitive electoral materials to the 18 local government areas in Calabar.
Boco clarified that the distribution of materials is underway and dismissed rumors that they had already been dispatched to the council areas. He outlined the operational details, stating that elections will be held across 3,281 polling units with support from 9,843 ad-hoc staff, 460 supervisors, 18 returning officers, and 198 collation officers.
All ad-hoc staff received training from October 25 to October 27 to ensure proper conduct during the elections.
Voting will begin at 8 AM and conclude at 2 PM on election day. Boco emphasized the commission’s commitment to transparency and integrity, urging political parties to continue their support throughout the process.
Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Effiom Edet, expressed confidence in the electoral process, noting that there have been no indications of malpractice, such as pre-signed results. He reassured the public of the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
In preparation for the elections, the state government has declared Friday a public holiday to facilitate smooth logistics and ensure voter participation.
