Prominent Nigerian business leaders, including Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu, have raised billions of naira to support the creation of a presidential library in honor of former military president Ibrahim Babangida. The event, held on Thursday, saw substantial donations from key figures in the country’s business and political sectors.
Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Group, announced a generous contribution of N6 billion, committing to donate N2 billion annually for the next four years. He expressed his willingness to continue funding the project beyond the initial four-year period if necessary. Dangote praised Babangida for his pivotal role in developing the Nigerian private sector, particularly for granting banking licenses to numerous entrepreneurs during his tenure.
Abdulsamad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, also pledged N5 billion to the initiative, commending Babangida for his transformative leadership. Rabiu emphasized that the library represents not just a tribute to an individual, but a sanctuary to honor Babangida’s vision and legacy.
Other significant donations came from Theophilus Danjuma, who contributed N3 billion through the TY Danjuma Foundation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who donated N50 million, and Arthur Eze and Mustafa Chike-Obi, who donated N500 million and N100 million, respectively.
