“Davido Opens Up About Hands-On Role in Producing Upcoming Album ‘5ive’”

Afrobeats heavyweight Davido is expanding his creative reach with his upcoming album 5ive, revealing that he played a hands-on role in producing several tracks on the project.
Speaking during a recent interview on Clue Radio, the multi-award-winning artist shared that he’s no stranger to music production—having produced his debut single “Back When” featuring Naeto C—and that he decided to tap back into that side of his artistry for 5ive.
“With this album, I did a lot of co-production,” he said. “We got back in that bag.”
5ive, set for release on April 18, comes with a star-studded lineup of both local and international collaborators. On the Afrobeats front, the album includes features from hitmakers like Omah Lay, Victony, OdumoduBlvck, and Chike—who joins Davido on the single “Fund.”
The project also bridges continents, spotlighting a diverse mix of global artists. Jamaican sensation YG Marley appears on “Awuke,” the album’s lead single, while fellow Caribbean stars Shensea and 450 also make guest appearances.
From the U.S., Davido reconnects with longtime collaborator Chris Brown and welcomes R&B powerhouse and Grammy winner Victoria Monét, along with Latin pop star Becky G. South African hitmaker Musa Keys also joins the lineup, following his appearance on Davido’s Grammy-nominated “Unavailable” from Timeless.
During a Twitch stream with genre-bending artist and streamer Cruel Santino, Davido opened up about the inspiration behind the album’s title, adding yet another layer of intrigue for fans anticipating his fifth studio album.
So far, Davido has dropped three singles ahead of the full release, with the latest being the lively Amapiano-inspired track “Be There Still.”
