A heart-breaking accident on the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road has left ten people dead and 12 others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The crash occurred near a security checkpoint in Warsala Town when a cement-laden truck, also carrying passengers, lost control. The truck collided with a car before veering off the road and plummeting into a ditch.
Yobe FRSC Commander, Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the crash took place approximately 30 kilometers from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital. The driver of the Volkswagen car, who was the sole occupant, sustained injuries, while the passengers in the truck bore the brunt of the tragedy.
The truck somersaulted, resulting in the deaths of 10 people, with 12 others currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with over-speeding suspected to be a key factor. As authorities probe the incident, the FRSC has issued a stern warning to road users to remain vigilant, particularly around security checkpoints, to prevent further loss of life.
