Defence chief asks commander to assist Borno flood victims

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has directed the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai to extend full assistance to the flood victims in Borno State.

This comes in response to the devastating floods that have overwhelmed Maiduguri, the state capital, and parts of the Jere Local Government Area.

The floods have caused significant destruction, submerging major roads, homes, and businesses, and breaching a prison wall in the Customs area. The breach led to some inmates drowning and others escaping in the ensuing chaos.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau on Tuesday, General Musa expressed profound sadness over the loss of lives, the destruction of property, and the displacement of thousands. The Chief of Defence Staff conveyed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and to the people of Borno State.

General Musa assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) would collaborate closely with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.

He instructed the Theatre Commander to ensure all necessary assistance is provided to the victims, emphasizing that the AFN stands in solidarity with Borno State.

The military will support evacuation efforts, rescue operations, and rehabilitation initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to alleviating the suffering caused by this tragic event.
