Kogi Central is on edge as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan raises the alarm over potential violence ahead of her much-anticipated Eid-el-Fitr homecoming. Taking to her official Facebook page on Tuesday, the fearless lawmaker issued a stern warning: should anything happen to her or her supporters, Nigerians must hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello responsible.
A Bold Declaration in the Face of Political Heat
“My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” Akpoti-Uduaghan declared.
Her statement comes just hours after reaffirming her commitment to visiting her constituency for the Sallah break, despite government-imposed restrictions and rising political tensions. Dismissing rumors that she had canceled her trip, the embattled senator urged her supporters to disregard misinformation and join her in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr.
Kogi Government’s Sudden Ban on Rallies Raises Eyebrows
In what many see as a strategic move to suppress political opposition, the Kogi State Government abruptly banned all rallies and public gatherings on Monday, citing “security threats.” Officials claimed the measure was necessary following violent incidents in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, where lives were reportedly lost.
Backing the directive, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, warned Akpoti-Uduaghan to abandon her planned homecoming rally, insisting it violated the state’s ban on political gatherings. But the senator remains unmoved.
Supporters Defy Government Order, Flood Streets in Anticipation
Despite the clampdown, Kogi Central is alive with excitement and unwavering defiance. Videos flooding social media show hundreds of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters—primarily women—joyfully singing, drumming, and dancing as they await her return.
Senator Bashir Haroon, one of Kogi’s key political figures, further intensified the movement by live-streaming the massive turnout, sending a clear message that the people are standing firm with their representative.
Will the Ban Hold or Will Kogi Witness a Political Shift?
With political tension boiling over and the senator refusing to back down, all eyes are now on Kogi Central. Will the government’s attempt to suppress opposition succeed, or are we witnessing the rise of a new political force challenging the status quo?
One thing is certain: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not backing down—neither are her people.
