Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, on Monday visited the site of a devastating tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, which occurred on Sunday afternoon. The tragic incident, in which at least five people lost their lives, also resulted in widespread destruction as a petrol tanker lost control and exploded in flames.
During the visit, Onyeme expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and described the incident as “unfortunate.” He reassured the residents of the state government’s commitment to providing compensation to the affected individuals and addressing the damage to infrastructure.
“We sympathize deeply with the entire Ika community, especially the victims and their families,” Onyeme said. “Rest assured, as you can see, the government is fully prepared to offer whatever assistance is necessary to help those still in hospital and in pain.”
The Deputy Governor further emphasized that a team of experts would be dispatched to assess the extent of the damage and recommend measures for remediation. He assured business owners affected by the disaster that the government would work towards alleviating the negative impacts on their livelihoods.
Onyeme also took the opportunity to thank the emergency responders and the public for their swift actions in containing the fire. He later visited the family of one of the victims, Deborah Adomgbor, to offer his condolences in person.
“We are deeply pained that such a tragedy occurred, particularly during this New Year period,” he said. “As a government, we will do everything within our power to lessen the impact of this accident on the community.”
