DSS Releases Six Protesters from #EndBadGovernance Demonstration in Kaduna
The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the release of six individuals who were arrested during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Kaduna State.
The release followed an investigation directed by the DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi.
While six protesters have been freed, three others are set to face court proceedings.
The nationwide protests, which lasted for ten days, aimed to address issues such as reducing the cost of governance, reinstating the petrol subsidy, ensuring food security, and promoting fiscal discipline. However, the demonstrations turned violent in various regions, leading to incidents of looting and vandalism.
In response to the unrest, police arrested several individuals across different states and obtained a court order to detain 124 of them in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for 60 days while investigations continue. So far, ten of these detainees have appeared in federal court in Abuja, where they were granted bail set at N1 million each.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, reported that security forces arrested a total of 2,111 protesters during the demonstrations.
