Team Edo is aiming high as the Niger Delta Sports Festival concludes Tuesday (today) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. By Monday, the team had already secured a total of 68 medals, 12 gold, 32 silver, and 24 bronze and had qualified for several finals, positioning themselves for an even stronger finish.
The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, has praised the athletes for their discipline, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Wilson Edoko, Enabulele highlighted the festival as a platform not just for medal wins, but for team-building ahead of the National Sports Festival slated for May in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“This event has allowed Team Edo to foster unity, build friendships, and showcase their talents. It has also provided insight into areas needing improvement as we prepare for the National Sports Festival,” he said.
Team Edo has shown strength in various disciplines including athletics, aquatics, para powerlifting, para-athletics, boxing, football, discus, javelin, handball, and swimming.
The festival brought together over 3,400 athletes from nine states across the Niger Delta region.
