The Edo State Government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to former officials, including former chairman of the revenue board, Ighodalo, to return government vehicles and other state assets still in their possession. The directive was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, who described the retention of state-owned property as illegal and unacceptable.
According to the statement, the government has observed that some former appointees failed to return official vehicles and equipment after leaving office, despite repeated requests. Ogie warned that any individual who does not comply with the directive within the stipulated period would face legal action. He reiterated that public property must be accounted for and managed transparently.
The Edo State Government explained that the ultimatum aligns with its ongoing reforms to ensure accountability, good governance, and the protection of state assets. The administration emphasized that the responsible management of public resources is crucial for delivering services to citizens and meeting developmental goals.
Residents and stakeholders have expressed support for the directive, calling on the government to remain firm in recovering public assets. Analysts say such measures are critical for curbing waste and promoting responsible conduct among public officials.
