Edo poll: Registered voters collect over 2.2m PVCs — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday that of the 2,629,025 registered voters in Edo State, 2,249,780 Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee Sam Olumekun provided this update in a statement.

He noted that the collected PVCs represent 85.57% of the total, while 379,245 PVCs, or 14.43%, remain uncollected as of the extended deadline on Sunday, September 16, 2024.

The statement detailed the process and provided additional information for voters and stakeholders: “Nigerians may recall that the Commission recently announced that the total number of registered voters in Edo State is 2,629,025. Of this figure, 2,249,780 (85.57%) have collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards, while 379,245 (14.43%) of the PVCs remain uncollected as of the end of the extended period for PVC collection on Sunday, 16 September 2024. Consequently, the Commission is providing data on PVC collection on a Polling Unit basis in Edo State ahead of the governorship election this weekend.”

INEC has made detailed data on PVC collection available on its website, including a breakdown of PVCs collected and uncollected in each of the 4,519 polling units across the state.

The PVC collection process for newly registered voters began at the ward level from August 22 to 26, 2024, followed by collection at Local Government offices from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

An extension was granted from September 13 to 15, 2024, due to appeals from stakeholders, with collection hours set from 9 am to 5 pm daily at INEC offices across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas.
