Edo Security Corps Nabs 18 Suspected Kidnappers, Seizes 38 Firearms in Major Operation

In a bold and successful operation, the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested 18 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers along the notorious Benin-Auchi Road, seizing 38 locally-made firearms, pellets, and various charms in the process.

The operation, which took place on Friday, was part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity in the state. Corps Commandant, Friday Ibadin, revealed the details in a statement on Saturday, explaining that the arrests were made during a bush combing operation near Equation Camp, close to an Army checkpoint.

Swift Pursuit Leads to Major Arrests

According to Ibadin, the operation began when two armed individuals were spotted holding guns by the roadside. Upon seeing the ESSC operatives, the suspects fled into nearby bushes, prompting a swift pursuit that culminated in the arrest of 18 individuals. Of those arrested, 17 were non-indigenes, and one hailed from the Agbede community, located in the northern part of Edo State.

The operation was a significant success, with law enforcement not only apprehending the criminals but also recovering 38 fully loaded locally-made guns, pellets, and numerous charms, which are often used in occult rituals to intimidate victims.

Ibadin expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of his team, which was crucial in ensuring the swift execution of the operation. He also reassured residents that the ESSC remains committed to maintaining the security of the state, especially as the farming season approaches.

A Clear Message: Edo Is Not Safe for Criminals

Ibadin assured the public that the ESSC would continue its vigilance, including combing through forests and other hidden areas, to rid Edo State of criminals and provide a safe environment for all residents. “Edo will be made safe and secure for everyone. We will continue our efforts to ensure that criminals have no place to hide,” he said.

The 18 suspects were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbede Police Station for further investigation. The Commandant also called for strengthened collaboration between the ESSC and other security agencies in the state, stressing that teamwork is crucial to eradicating criminal elements from Edo.

Governor’s Call for Stronger Action Against Criminals

This arrest comes just days after Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, called on all security agencies in the state to step up their efforts in flushing out criminals from the forests and ensuring the safety of farmers and citizens alike.

Governor Okpebholo’s directive highlighted the state’s commitment to ensuring that criminals have no safe haven in Edo.

The success of this operation by the ESSC sends a strong message to criminals: Edo is no longer a place where they can operate with impunity. With continued vigilance and collaboration between security agencies, the state is poised to tackle its security challenges head-on.
