An official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), known only as Sylvanus, was found dead on a street in Lagos State. A viral video circulating online shows the deceased, dressed in burgundy traditional attire, lying lifeless on the road.
The scene attracted bystanders, including two police officers, who searched a small bag he was carrying to try to identify him. In the video, voices can be heard, including that of a police officer, saying, “Where e dey work, nah EFCC. His ID card dey there.”
While the cause of his death remains unclear, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that an investigation is underway. “The death is being investigated,” Oyewale stated.
This incident comes just two weeks after another EFCC officer, Aminu Salisu, was fatally shot by suspected fraudster Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.
The tragic death of Sylvanus has raised concerns about the safety of EFCC operatives, particularly while carrying out their duties.
