El-Rufai Denies Corruption Allegations, Plans Political Comeback in 2027

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly denied allegations of corruption during his administration, asserting he is ready to swear by the Holy Quran to prove his innocence.

In a recent interview El-Rufai emphasized his commitment to returning to politics in 2027 after completing his studies.

El-Rufai declared, “I intend to return to politics in 2027. There is no retirement in politics. By the will of Allah, we will return and continue serving the people.” His comments reflect a belief that political engagement is a lifelong endeavor.

Addressing the allegations, El-Rufai stated, “I didn’t join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor.” He challenged both his predecessors and current leaders to swear an oath of integrity, asserting that the accusations against him lacked concrete evidence.

El-Rufai has also pointed out that some of his associates are facing scrutiny from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, suggesting these investigations are politically motivated.

Amidst these controversies, El-Rufai has taken legal action against the Kaduna State House of Assembly and the Attorney General over a report alleging he misappropriated N423 billion during his tenure.

The Assembly’s ad hoc committee, set up to investigate financial activities under his administration, indicted him and his appointees in June 2024.

The current governor, Uba Sani, has expressed concerns over the financial state he inherited, citing a significant debt profile and contractual liabilities.

Despite the challenges, El-Rufai remains dedicated to public service, stating, “You don’t need to hold a position in government to serve. We are still working with like-minded individuals who genuinely want to serve the people.” He emphasizes that his commitment to the people continues outside of formal political roles.

As he navigates these allegations and prepares for a potential return to politics, El-Rufai maintains that his faith in divine justice will guide him through these turbulent times.
