El-Rufai missed NEC meeting voluntarily, says APC spokesman

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said that the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, voluntarily chose not to attend the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. Morka clarified that El-Rufai, like any other NEC member, had the right to attend but failed to do so.

Leaders of the ruling party gathered at the National Secretariat in Abuja for the NEC meeting, marking the first since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in 2023. The meeting was well-attended by all members of the National Working Committee and other party organs. Key figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, were present.

This development follows remarks made by El-Rufai two days earlier during an interview with newsmen, where he criticized the APC, claiming the party lacked internal democracy and had failed to adhere to its constitution by calling the NEC meeting.

When reminded that the party’s NEC meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, El-Rufai responded that he had not received an invitation, which he believed should have been sent days earlier.

However, Morka countered in a statement to newsmen, stating that notices were indeed sent to all party leaders, including El-Rufai, who chose not to attend the meeting.
